What do they mean?

Adverbs of frequency tell us how often we do something.

Grammar Rules

Where do we put the adverb in a sentence? Follow these rules:

1. Before the Main Verb
Subject + Adverb + Main Verb
  • I often play football.
  • She usually goes to the gym.
2. After the Verb "To Be"
Subject + Am/Is/Are + Adverb
  • She is always late.
  • They are never happy.
3. Asking Questions
How often do/does + Subject + Verb?
  • How often do you go to school?

Speaking Activity

Work with a partner. Ask and answer: "How often do you…?"

  • ...watch TV?
  • ...do your homework?
  • ...play sports?
  • ...eat out at restaurants?
  • ...use your phone in class?
"I usually watch TV in the evening, but I never use my phone in class."

Write 5 sentences about your weekly habits using different adverbs of frequency.
