Future Simple

Using "Will" & "Won't"

What is the Future Simple?

The Future Simple tense is used to talk about actions that haven't happened yet. We form it using the auxiliary verb "will" followed by the base form of the verb.

Sentence Structure

✅ Affirmative (+)
Subject + will + Verb (base form)
  • I will travel to Spain tomorrow. (Or: I'll travel)
  • She will pass the exam.
❌ Negative (-)
Subject + will not (won't) + Verb (base form)
  • He won't come to the party tonight.
  • We will not lose this match!
❓ Question (?)
Will + Subject + Verb (base form)?
  • Will you help me with this?
  • Will they arrive on time?

When do we use it?

We do not use "will" for plans we have already made. We use it for:

  • Promises: "I will call you when I get home."
  • Quick/Instant Decisions: "It's hot. I will open the window."
  • Predictions (what we think/guess): "I think robots will rule the world in 2050."

Time Expressions: Look for words like tomorrow, next week, soon, later, in the future.
