Making an Invitation

Use these expressions to invite someone to eat or drink with you.

  • "Would you like to..." + Verb (Would you like to go to the cafe?)
  • "How about..." + Verb-ing (How about getting some pizza?)
  • "Do you want to..." + Verb (Do you want to eat out tonight?)
  • "Let's..." + Verb (Let's go grab a burger.)

Accepting an Invitation

Use these expressions to say "yes" to an invitation.

  • "Yes, I'd love to."
  • "That sounds great!"
  • "Sure, why not?"
  • "I'd be happy to."

Refusing an Invitation Politely

If you can't go, it is polite to give a reason or say you are busy.

  • "I'd love to, but..." (I'd love to, but I have to study.)
  • "Sorry, I can't. I have to..." (Sorry, I can't. I have to help my mom.)
  • "I'm afraid I'm busy."
  • "Maybe next time."
